Smart and Innovative Solutions for Green and Clean Rural Areas in Black Sea Basin - Smart4Rural

Smart4Rural project is being implemented through the “Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme”, 1 st Call.
Smart4Rural project is focusing on enhancing the joint efforts in supporting sustainable development and resilience of rural areas in Georgia, Moldova, Romania, and Turkey by the introduction of modern and smart approaches to reducing nature pollution and biodegradable waste impact and providing environmental protection in the BSB.

6 organizations from 4 BSB countries (Georgia, Romania, Moldova and Türkiye) are involved in the project.

The main activities of the project

Introduction of modern solutions for composting in rural areas based on EU best practices:

  • Rural Composting Plant in Tskaltubo, Georgia.
  • Small-scale facility for composting in Ungheni, Moldova.
  • Community composting sites in Türkiye (Rize Municipality), Moldova (Ungheni District), Georgia (Tskaltubo Municipality).
  • Individual composting in Georgia, Moldova, Türkiye and Romania.
  • Study visits to Galati (Romania) for representatives of Ungheni (Moldova) and to Kutaisi (Georgia) for representatives of Rize (Türkiye).
  • Study visit to the headquarters of European Compost Network (Germany) for exchanging of the European composting practice.

  • E- learning platform to provide the LLL education in Georgian, Romanian and Turkish.
  • Educational program for pilot schools in all participating countries.

Cross-boundary cooperation to promote best practices and facilitate behavior-changing:

  • International scientific conference in Georgia.
  • International conference “Composting: Challenges and Potentials” in Romania.
  • The Round Tables on environment protection and waste recycling in rural areas in Moldova andTürkiye.
  • Composting community’s forum in Georgia.
  • Community awareness campaign “Composting to each household yard” in each participating country (Georgia, Romania, Türkiye, Moldova)
  • International Festival on Rural Composting and Bioproducts in Moldova.
  • Joint Green camp for youth from Moldova and Romania organized in Moldova.
  • Clean-up campaigns and other environmental events in all participating countries.

International Academy on Eco-Innovations for Young talents from Georgia,Romania, Moldova and Türkiye.
